Madhurendra Kumar is a world-renowned Indian sand artist, sculptor, painter, leaf artist, and multi-media artist hailing from the East Champaran district of Bihar. Through his original vision, technical proficiency, and socially conscious creative works, he has brought immense pride to India and Bihar at both national and international levels.

By transforming riverbank sand into a medium of artistic expression within the landlocked state of Bihar, he popularized sand art. He is the first sand artist from North India to have received over 100 national awards and to have represented India in more than 50 international sand art festivals across 25+ countries. Having established over 12 world records, Madhurendra Kumar has served as a brand ambassador and star campaigner for the Election Commission of India, Swachh Survekshan, and welfare schemes of the Government of Bihar.

Early Life & Family Background

Madhurendra Kumar was born on September 5, 1994, in Barwakala village (maternal home) in the Ghorasahan block of East Champaran district, located 182 km from Bihar's capital Patna, into a very modest and economically challenged Kanu (Halwai) family. His ancestral village is Bijbani (Block Bankatwa, East Champaran), situated on the banks of the Aruna River along the Indo-Nepal border.
